Three years after graduating with honors from the School of Visual Arts’ Film and Video program, Miriam Agwai began studying the Meisner Technique under James Brill, Senior Acting Instructor and faculty member at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. She’s played roles in films like “Storm Up The Sky”, an official selection at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, “Reginald” by Paul Briganti, co-founder of LandlineTV, and was featured in the music video for “I’ve Got You” by Billboard 100 Chart topper, Martha Wash. She's modeled for jewelry boutique, Atelier Minyon’s lookbook. Her photo was chosen by INDESIGN Magazine for the cover of their January/February 2014 issue. She’s appeared in online promos for MAC cosmetics and Gesamtkunstwerk.
Miriam is a military brat from Nigeria. Before moving to New York City, she spent most of her childhood and adolescence in Zimbabwe, Nigeria and England. All that traveling has given her a good ear for accents and picking up languages. She’s fluent in Hausa, has a little Spanish and Italian under her belt, and can do American, English and Nigerian accents. Miriam is also a filmmaker. Her short film, “Homecoming”, was an official selection at the 2011 Estes Park Film Festival, 2011 NewFilmmakers NY and 2011 Lady Filmmakers Film Festival. In her spare time, Miriam shoots videos on her Canon 7D called Ebony.
